Cardcaptors x 2?

It’s weird. I’ve hard this narky suspicion for a while that there are two seperate dubs of Cardcaptor Sakura; both of which are currentley playing on Australian TV. The first one, which plays on Cartoon Network’s Toonami, is – I think – the ‘doctored’ American one all the CLAMP otaku were moaning about when they first dubbed it. It’s edited all to buggery and has the weirdest order imaginable, and it also has a dubbed version of “Groovy” as the end title music. The second version, which plays on Cheeze TV in the mornings (though posibly not for much longer since they seem to be almost at the end of the series) starts at episode one of the original and seems to run in a more linear fashion (from what I remember of Matt’s CCS fansubs). Though it keeps the same names as the other dub (and VAs, too I think), it has different end titles entierley. Weird… Why would they make two English versions that are so different? Then again, who knows what goes on in the minds of these crazy dubbing companies…- Comments By » ~matt

To answer your question three years later, yes, there are 2 Diffrent versions, i have been watching cardcaptor sakura, cardcaptors (cheez tv) and cardcaptors (cartoon network) since their respective starting times and have noticed that the australian versions are changed a fair amount from the american version. The most obvious being the startings and endings, as the american cardcaptors starts with that horrible beginning with the Computer generated images and the depressing song, and ends with that doubly depressing song. The cheeze Tv version of cardcaptors has the “Catch you Catch me” dub as the beginning, but still ends with that depressing american tune with the blue incarnation credit screen. The Cartoon Network version of Cardcaptors has the Catch you Catch me beginning and the Groovy ending, but when first aired, was as you said, in a whacky order. This was a result of the australian company who was editing the episodes, choosing to edit them in a weird order, and thus Cartoon Network would air them as they became avalible. They aired the first series, and then the frist series again a few weeks after this was done, and then led into the Seconds series, and then aired the First, second, and then third, but for the third season, the Star card (or sakura card for CCS), was aired at 8:30am, and by that time i would have been at school
Other major diffrences between the Australian Versions and the American Version are that for the US version, there were only 20 Episodes, and for the two australian Versions, there were 70. So to basically sum up, yes, there are two Australian Versions, but i believe the Cartoon Network one to be the more complete of the two by the time the third series was aired, plus i love the Groovy ending far more than the Blue screen one.
