Feh, Why Me?

Monday, 3:44 pm in Otaku

Aah man. Why is it that whenever I just get interested in an anime some American company picks up the rights to it? Faarrk! There goes my chance of getting cheap Gensoumaden Saiyuki now that ADV has got it. I dunno… Saiyuki is one of those things I’d rather watch in Japanese; maybe I’ll buy the DVDs, ne? But that’ll put me wa-aa-aa-ay out of pocket. ADV tends to do a pretty good job of dubbing, though because they’re commercial they have no respect for the original; just the market they dub it for (q.v. Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, which was largely okay ‘cept they dropped a few subtexts that would be considered “unacceptable” for Fascist Western Audiences). We also actually tend to get ADV tapes here, too; the only thing more expensive than buying officially Australian-released anime is buying imported American anime (I should know, after my Trigun obsession). Of course, if they don’t release it here then there’s a chance to get cheap bootlegs of the American ones… Aah, man. It would probably be cheaper just to finish learning Japanese, buy the damn originals, and fansub them myself. As long as they don’t try and sub it as a kids’ show; though ADV doesn’t tend to do that either, so fingers crossed…

On a petulantly whiny note, if anyone has any Saiyuki (in any format; VHS, DVD, VCD, DivX, manga, soundtracks) they’d like to sell me, then let’s talk.
