Well. How… fun. I went on the ‘walk’ up Mt. Thingo today. Well, it was more of a forced march really. And – as usual – it didn’t just rain, it poured. With lightning. And in these parts of the world, rain + forest = leeches. I’d never had leeches before, so that was… um, yeah. Interesting. Various people picked three off my clothing; I had none on my actual skin (thank the gods I wore long pants). However, as usual with these things, shared suffering brings mutual bonding, so I performed a bit of that with my American Eating Friends (whom I’ve had dinner with for the past two nights; actually one isn’t American and, ironically, I met him previously the last time I was down here before moving in). Nobody got all the way to the top since it was raining too hard; the bus came and picked us up halfway and took us home. The major leech-checking occurred while we were waiting for it to arrive, and more girly shriekes I’ve never heard. Yes, even I had my fair share of “Eeek! Get it off me”-s (imagine that; stoic Dee running around squealing like a girl) – and by the gods those things just don’t want to die! Not fire nor salt nor squishing can do away with them; I guess it pays to suck blood, hey? Back at Campus East, my room-mate and Some Other Guy were waiting with a bowl of salt. I was sopping and leech-paranoid, so instantly rushed back for a shower where I was most relieved I didn’t wind up with any in weird and/or embarrassing places (or anywhere, actually). All in all, it was a fun afternoon.

Oh, and check out this; a referrer from someone looking up “chilli’s wollongong”. Weird… (The post they found is here.)
