Government meme nicked off
poofywolf.
Do you feel that the government does enough to protect the environment?
Of course not. Protecting the environment isn’t in the interest of The Economy (read: businesses/farmers/etc.). At least in the short-term, which is pretty much all The Economy thinks about. That’s why we have Crusader Bob and his Mighty Greens in the Senate to win environmental concessions off the government when it’s trying to pass other legislation.
What should be done to parents who abandon their children?
I suppose it depends on why they abandoned them. Usually I guess this is a poverty/capacity issue. So I guess all you really can do is provide a social security net to catch them in and hopefully prevent the kind of situation where a parent would abandon their child in the first place. Education and support, and all that.
Do you think racism is still a problem in this country?
Yes. There’s two kinds of racism; latent and overt. Latent worries me the most because it’s the kind of ‘acceptable’ racism which is indulged in by a vast swathe of people and isn’t even considered racist. Things like, “all wogs are bad drivers”, “all abbos are criminals” and that sort of throw-away line. The second kind of racism is more obvious and is institutionalised with all the bullshit about the asylum seekers being queue jumpers/terrorists/evil people who want to eat your children run for the hills! There’s a lot of racism around.
Should a husband/wife be forced to testify against their spouse in a trail? Why?
You know, I never really got what this rule is protecting. The sanctity of marriage? Gimme a break! Make the fuckers testify. Marriage is so fucking 50 years ago anyway. Either that, or extend it to anyone in a defacto and/or marriage-like relationship. Which means you’ll have to start giving rights to all those fags. Don’t like that, do you? Thought not.
What foreign country would you most like to visit? Why?
Japan. Because everyone has been except me and it sucks ass. Plus I want to buy shit. I’d also go to England again and go back and do all that fun stuff I missed in London the first time, like the Jack the Ripper Tour. And I’d go to Singapore again, because it’s pretty, hot and full of computer stuff.
Should there be a limit on how much people can sue for?
Quite possibly, but it should probably be linked to the actual situation. In fact, I think in some circumstances at least this might already be the case. Too much litigation is bad for the country.
Should women be drafted?
I don’t think anyone should be drafted, so no.
Should prayer be allowed in public schools?
‘Allowed’, yes. ‘Required’, no. If little Sue or Mohammed wants to go off and pray at recess then they should be allowed to. But there should be no instutionalised requirement for pastoral care in government funded schools. Seperation of church and state, and all that.
Is using a seniority based system at work fair?
Not really. People should probably be promoted on skill and sutiability.
What is your opinion on the death penalty?
The state shouldn’t institutionalise murder, full stop. The death penalty sounds nice in theory, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty facts (ie. the racial makeup of people on death row, number of innocent people killed and so on) it starts to loose its gloss.
How would life be different if money did not exist?
This is a fucking stupid question. Either we’d have a barter system of some sort which would be essentially the same anyway (though would probably eliminate venture capital and the like), or we’d be like Star Trek and have magic machines to make everything for us for free. Take your pick. Many people live in societies without money, believe it or not.
Should people be allowed to burn the American flag in protest?
There’s nothing any more special about the American flag than there is any other. If you’re going to burn one, you might as well be allowed to burn them all. Whatever. It’s just a piece of polyester, anyway.
What do you think is the best job to have in the US?
Not being in the US would be a good start…
What are your views on abortion?
Pro-choice. Don’t know if I’d have one myself, but if someone else wants one its their business not anyone else’s. Pro-lifers are invariably such hypocrites, anyway.
