Homebrew Always Tastes Sweeter

Saturday, 12:47 am in Archive
Along with this monster, other homebrew weblog systems are beginning to spring up. Michel from dayzero.org is working on b2; which is sort of more Blogger/Greymatter based than this one. This, in my humble opinion, is a Good Thing; the less dependent on other sites people are the better. Besides, the basics for most of this shit isn’t very hard to actually write; I basically taught myself PHP and MySQL as I was going along. Hell, maybe we’ll even start a trend of GPL’d, home written weblogs. After all, the more you actually write yourself the more you can get it exactly like you want it; right down to the tiniest detail. So Jane Random User can grab a distro of something like b2 or this thing and use it as a “core” around which to build any of the other features they want. Sort of like the *BB “hacking” (that is, adding extra features to, not destroying) phenomenon. So, instead of the whole wide world being reliant on Blogger and GreyMatter, which makes for rather homogenous weblogs, a greater diversity in weblog styles and backends will emerge. Well, maybe.

I really need to be studying maths insead of going off on an idealistic tyrade, though. Stupid non-assessable practice test…

The funny thing is that I’ve been going around weblog systems on freshmeat.net, and most of these were sooo lame !

By the way the controlpanel menu system in b2 allows adding sections very easily, which makes endless hack possibilities smile.png

My code is such a jumbled mess; you have to really know what you’re doing to add stuff to it. I get lost in it. I’ll have to clean it up a lot before releasing any of it.
