There’s something unduly odd about this whole thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for people not dying of cancer and all – my step-grandfather died of cancer, not to mention both my dogs (don’t laugh, pets are important too!) – but there’s donating for a fundraiser and then there’s exploiting a disease (and grief) for profit. What, you think Nike’s flogging this off as the latest trend because they’re nice? I think not. (The wearyellow.com site is a redirect to a part of the Nike homepage.)

And the whole “WearYELLOW LiveSTRONG” (seriously; that’s how it’s written) thing is kind of disturbingly pseudo-cultish. The quote from Armstrong (who, I’m afraid to say, need a good shooting for cameoing in Dodgeball; when I say everyone involved in a film needs to be shot to teach the film industry a lesson, I’m not kidding. I don’t care how many good films they’ve made previously or how much cancer they’ve had, that movie was unforgivable)* is so… well, it’s quite frankly laughable. Okay, I know about the whole ‘yellow jersey’ deal in the Tour de France, but there’s a sporting achievement and then turning some out-of-context piece of badgoth poetry (just replace ‘yellow’ with ‘black’ and try not to laugh) into a pseudo-religious lifestyle choice.

I mean, what the fuck? Can’t you find a way to support cancer without turning it into the latest hyper-elite street fashion trend? (And don’t tell me it wasn’t at least partially intentional; I mean look at the thing!)

Give me fucking Daffodil Day anytime. That pen I got a few years ago was a damn good pen.

* To lawyers/fans without a sense of humour; no, I don’t really want to shoot anyone. But Dodgeball really is a bad film. Save yourself the mass genocide of your braincells and don’t go see it.
