I'm Ba-aa-aa-ack!

Well, what’ve I been doing over the long weekend (it’s Australia Day Weekend for you foreigners) you all may very well not ask? Well, I’m glad you didn’t. On Monday we all got up super-early (for our family, anyway) and drove off to Sydney for the day. Whilst there, we went to see the Buddhist art exhibition at the gallery-thingo. It was… okay. Not really my thing, but my parents liked it. Afterwards we trudged around for a little while and did some shopping, which included me dragging mum off to the Japan Book Plaza, where I bought nothing (sorry Matt, they didn’t even have a Ribbon for you). Then we met up with dad at the Adyar (Adjyar? Adjar? I dunno, whatever), which is this huge alternative bookstore around near the Queen Victoria Building. I bought a few ‘research’ books for Eta? (and do you know how hard it is to get a decent book on Angels which isn’t filled with all lovey-dovey sugary crap?), and now know what a Sephiroth is. I also went to Galaxy (the big sci-fi/fantasy/horror bookstore next door), but they didn’t really have anything I wanted which I couldn’t get here. Finally we got kicked out of the bookstore ‘cause it was closing (a common occurance with my dad) and made our way to the QVB for some drinks. I popped into the Cartoon Gallery whilst I was there and helped identify Manji to Some Guys, as well as picking myself up a Trigun artbook.

After our Cool Refreshing Drinks we headed out to Nana’s house where we were staying and had a bit of a Family Bicker and some roast lamb. I slept in the uncomfortable bed, as usual, and tried to avoid all the Deathtraps in the bathroom.

The next day we said ta-ta to nana and pa and headed down to Wollongong to enroll me in university, which I did. It wasn’t too hard (though the stupid form on HECS was a killer), and mostly involved a lot of standing around in really long queues to get told stuff I already knew by staff who didn’t know what they were talking about either. That took around three hours (we had to be there at 9:30 because it was done alphabetically), after which I opened an account at the uni’s on-campus National Bank (for convienience). Then we took a trip out to the college I’ll be staying at and got shown the rooms by a nice guy called Ken who I think was Japanese but might not have been. The rooms were nice, even if there really isn’t enough desk space for me to put all my stuff on… I’m looking forward to the cable internet they have there. (Whee! Broadband!)

After all that was done, we went to have lunch at this weird place called Chili’s, before my parents decided to check out the big Buddhist temple that was built for some inexplicable reason just outside the ‘Gong. It was really nice, and my parents liked it – they’ll probably stay there when they come up to visit me, big ol’ Born Again Buddhists that they are. After that we were all pretty buggered, so we came home.

The end.

Um - on the off chance that UoW use ex-students who went to the applicants school - then Ken is probably Chinese, and doing second year engineering. There was a guy called Ken who was in many of my maths and physics classes at Bundah, and he also went to my primary school. Mount Neighbour. Laidback guy that confused me a fair bit.
