It Sucked...

I think what this article points out is the main reason why people didn’t like Revolutions (though I much prefer The Matrix Gay Kissing). Is largely due to the fact that people were expecting some ‘clever’, ‘symbolic’, ‘post-modern’ plot twist (or at least for the Twins to come back). And instead what they got was a reasonably average film about people beating each other up and containing a very dull formula Hollywood plot and corny dialogue. But that was supposed to be okay because the film had a message so all you people who didn’t like it obviously didn’t get it because you’re too thick to understand the message. Which was, incidentally, that war is bad, that machines are people too and that Neo is Christ. Get it? Got it? Good.
Do you really love it any more?
Didn’t think so.
Getting whacked in the face with the kind of subtlety that makes Godzilla look dainty is not exactly my idea of good film-making. Hence my problem with the Sequels remains.
The thing is, they wouldn’t be too bad as far as plotless Hollywood action blockbusters go, so long as they weren’t pretending to be witty and deep. The first movie worked because it had less pretentions (and none of that French Guy and his Boobs Wife) and we hadn’t seen anything like it before.
That’s the thing about novel ideas. They stop being novel and start being cliche really goddamn quick.

My friends and I watched Akira straight from coming home from the cinema and Revolutions - a great combination of films together.
was a bit of a headfuck though…
“So what’s happening in this bit?”
“Dunno. Looks good though.”
