It's Social Theory Baby Yeah

Late night browsing of the conspiracy-theorist’s nightmare-dream, Google Watch pulls up an interesting article on weblogs and power laws. The power law is simple enough; 20% of anything will have 80% of the market share (ie. 20% of people own 80% of the wealth, 20% of words in the English language get used 80% of the time and so on, 20% of anthro artists get 80% of the hits at dA, and so on). I touched on a similar vein superficially in April 2002, and it’s interesting to see that someone is actually doing this stuff seriously.

Weblogs really got popular somewhere along the line… became this big social theorem… Jesus. I remember when we didn’t have them. Am I really that old? No, wait, it was only a few years ago. Things just move fast I guess.
