Nothin’ beats a meme before bedtime!

My journal is called voidstar because it is the name of my domain. Okay, the real reason is I was sitting in CSCI204 (C Family and Unix) on day last April? May? Shit, better remember to re-register the domain… Anyway, I was sitting in 204 last year listening to Saff talk about pointers and how C doesn’t have template classes like C++ or something and to make a long story short all I basically heard was, “Blah blah blah void star blah blah.” I thought that would be a pretty good name for a domain; it’s geeky and glamwhorey all at the same time! How can you go wrong? Fin.

My subtitle is segfault because anyone who has ever worked with pointers (eg. the <tt>void *</tt>) will have had to fight with segmentation faults at some stage. I can never remember what, exactly, a segfault is… something about trying to use memory you haven’t allocated, but then I can never remember the difference between it and a bus error. Except for the three hours of the 204 exam last year where I aksed ~braken [h] on the way in, “What’s the difference between a segfault and a bus error?” knowing that it would be on the test, and lo, it was.

My friends page is called malloc because it is a C function call for allocating new pointer memory. Or something. God, it’s not like I ever actually program in C… avoid it like the plague. Anything that wants me to pass anything as a double – or gods forbid triple – pointer can get fucking stuffed.

My username is loqia because it is my alias. No really, there’s no more exciting story to it than that. For those of you who haven’t heard the story, it comes from a combination of Loquacia and Loquacious, and is a bastardisation of locha which is a medical term roughly equating to ‘afterbirth’. It’s all tied up in a bunch of Herebeyond crap. For those of you who are wondering, yes, I did indeed pay $15 to change my journal’s name over from gingitsune so I could keep my uber-low userID.
