Is anyone else who has a subdomained LiveJournal (eg. Early Adopters or Paid) having problems with their LJ not recognising them as being logged in when they’re viewing their journal in the subdomain?

I figure either LJ’s got something going on with it’s cookies or my new Mozilla is chucking a spaz again…

Hi!  I’m just here via the ‘powered by me’ webring…

I also have a livejournal, and when I had it embedded in my webpage (was trying to use it as my blog to avoid crossposting) I could never see my friends-only entries, or my friends’ friends-only entries from my webpage although I logged in.  I guess it just didn’t keep me logged in or something.  I finally ditched the lj on my website thing and went back to hand coding because the blog readers were having trouble leaving comments.

Great site you have here!  I wish I knew more about script writing, but I use my isp’s free webspace for my site, and thay don’t allow scripting or anything else modern :/

Er, yah. That would be because of the way cookies use domains. LJ’s cookies (and, indeed, 99% of all cookies on the ‘Net) are setup to only be avaliable to the originating domain  (eg. .livejournal.com), so obviously if you try and access your content from any other domain the cookies won’t register. This is the bare-bones basic security functions as far as cookies are concerned, and also not the same problem as I was having (well, okay, it kind of is but not in they way you’re implying).

v-s.net’s weblog isn’t just an embedded LJ; the blog software itself is actually an LJ update client, so when I make a post here it ‘clones’ it across to my LiveJournal automatically. I wrote the software v-s.net runs on (sk.log), so while it’s buggy I know it’s quirks pretty well.

And while I’ve run and adminstered my own LJ server software (for Fun)… I don’t know it nearly half as well. angry.png

Yes, I had that problem. I thought it was firefox playing silly buggers with the semi-optional transparent proxy at work, so I expired all my sessions and logged in again. It took a few goes of that and  several  attempts to miss the cache to correct things.

I’ve not bothered to look at any of the LJ maintenance journals.
