Took ~Mat [h] to go see Finding Nemo tonight. It was cute, and one for the IMDB to look up all the voice talent and see just how many actual Australians they chucked in there; Barry Humphries and Eric Bana (who I guess is one of those ‘international’ types now like Geoffrey Rush so doesn’t count). Bruce Spence is from New Zealand, so that also counts (anyone who’s any good at anything and comes from New Zealand gets instantly claimed by Australia). Bill Hunter has been in practically every major Australian movie since I wa a wee tyke (Pricilla, Muriel’s Wedding, Strictly Ballroom), as well as having had roles in Prisoner and The Flying Doctors. I think there were a few more cameo roles in there too; Rove McManus was allegedley a crab.
Funny how many Australian actors turn up in minor roles in movies nowadays; guess since The Matrix, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings all discovered the labour was cheaper out here what with the low dollar and all it’s been a bit inevitable. ‘Course that’s the old ‘death of local industry’ argument getting rolled out again right there. Damn globalisation again.
Speaking of which, we did The Environment today in politics. Talking about The Environment – especially millitant groups like Earth First! – always makes me think of Werewolf. It’s kind of sad that most of the trivia I know about world history, the environment and general Stuff I know from reading White Wolf sourcebooks. Then again, I suppose if I’m learning it, other people are too. And learning is always good. The turtle from Finding Nemo reminded me of Raf, one of the PCs from the old Bite Me game of Vampire. I wonder if Raf’s player thought the same thing… wherever she now is.
Which brings me to another random WW related thought. I remember a longlong time ago I found a girl in band with one of those bead-letter necklaces that read k i n d r e d. This was back in the day Kindred: the Embraced was on TV. I really, really wish I could go back in time and tell that girl that her cool, uber-gothy necklace came from a roleplying game. Like Dungeons and Dragons, but daggier.
I would’ve enjoyed that, I think. Just to see her reaction.
