Music Monday #... Something
Monday, 10:20 pm in Music
Bit late tonight, but fuck that, it’s here so no bitching. Yes, that’s right, it’s Music Monday again, since I know you all hang out for it and all.
Bauhaus with Brian Eno, “Third Uncle”
Burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
Cook the leather
Put it on me
Does it fit me
Or you
It looks tight on you
Fear the over-rated gothic whining that is Bauhaus! Yes, you haven’t really unlived unless you’ve sat through the a-tonal screeching of these fathers of goff. Their most famous tune – “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” – has thankfully mysteriously disappeared from my music archive, however I still have quite a pick and figured it was time to subject you poor fools to some of it. Count yourselves lucky that you’re recieving a relativley mild offering. Oh, and the eyeliner? Doesn’t go with the suit, darlink.
Chicks on Speed, “We Don't Play Guitars [Live]” (watch)
We like to use gaffa tape,
but we don’t play guitars
Give us your gaffa tape,
we don’t want your guitars
I’m not entierly sure how ‘famous’ these guys are; they got some airtime here on Triple J, and I’ve seen their follow-up track on Rage, but other than that one shot of fame… Anyway, this is a live version of the Chicks on Speed track; it’s slightly faster than the radio version. This song is just kind of bouncy and dumb, which is why I spend half my time liking it and the other half wanting to kill iTunes everytime it comes on.
Faith & the Muse, “Running Up That Hill”
And if I only could,
I’d make a deal with God,
And I’d get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.
Wow we’re really cracking out the goff tonight. Anyway, I do believe this is a cover of a Kate Bush song. You will enjoy.
Four Non Blondes, “What's Up” (watch)
So I cry sometimes when I’m lying in my bed
To get it all out what’s in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
This song was totally the coolest thing when I was about ten. I remember, in fact, because I used to watch the videoclip on Smash Hits back when I went caravaning to Queensland with my parents back in 1993. I don’t remember much of the ‘story’ behind this one-hit-wonder, only that the lead singer had an Alanis Morisette voice back before that sort of things was fashionable. Oh, and she wore that kind of early-90’s grungy hippie outfit in the videoclip and fuckdamn I thought she was cool. My mum likes this song. Just so you know.
Mr. Floppy, “Wuthering Heights”
Too long I roamed in the night.
I’m coming back to his side, to put it right.
I’m coming home to wuthering, wuthering,
Wuthering Heights
Two Kate Bush covers in the one post? Has she gone mad? After hearing this song, you’ll probably think so. Hell, the original is bad enough if you, er, don’t know what you’re expecting.

Is the Four Non-Blondes track the one that goes “I said heeeey heeeeey heeeeey hey/ I said hey/ what’s going on”? Wow, that takes me back. Well it would, if I could feasibly download these - but alas am back in the Dark Ages of 56k Dial-up. Gah. I like your choice cuts - there’s always at least two good ‘uns I end up liking.
Shit it. Oh well. Time to repair permissions on the computer - complete with leeches.
