Music Monday #2!
Monday, 5:32 pm in Music
Long time no post. We’ve had a long weekend here, and well, I just really haven’t been arsed doing much of anything. I levelled my Vagrant in FlyFF to 15 and job changed into a Magician (Luxxa on Lawolf)… oh, and on Saturday I got maybe 70% through inking a new picture to put on the MSIE layout here at v-s.net when a brownout rebooted the computer and destroyed all my work. Blah.
Anyway, not to worry because it’s Music Monday again!
The point of Music Monday is simple; post five of your current favourite songs for other people to download and enjoy. It’s musical, it’s piratical, it’s a veritable Pirates of Penzance.
Quoted From: Music Monday
Luke Vibert, “Tank!”
From the Cowboy Bebop OST, Music For Freelance, it’s a remix of the opening theme to the seminal anime. Much faster and more manic than the ‘traditional’ opening; imagine an exciting chase scene while you listen to it.
TISM, “Come Back DJ, Your Record is Scratched”
Come back DJ
It’s getting ugly in here
There’s no more bottled water
They’re starting on the beer
Everybody’s coming down
It’ll be a free-for-all
Any more freestylin’
They’ll be wanting Aussie Crawl
TISM are an Australian comedy band primarily known for wearing ski masks at all times and having names like Ron Hitler Barassi. Their name stands for “This is Serious Mum”, but when I was a kid I used to think it was “Terrorists in Ski Masks”; back before that kind of thing bacame Unpopular. A lot of their music is very Aussie-centric, though not so much this track (apart from the background loop). This is one of two songs from their De Rigueurmortis album that deals with rave songs.
MDFMK, “Torpedoes”
There goes the neighborhood
And somehow you knew it would
‘cause you understand armageddon’s right around the bend
You got your fortune right in your hands
Good ol’ MDFMK, onetime side-project of seminal Industrial/EBM act KMFDM. “Torpedoes” is almost – dare I say it? – a pop song, and the – dare I say this? – rollicking beat reminds me of that scene from Doctor Strangelove where the guy is riding the bomb waving his cowboy hat in the air (if you haven’t seen the film, there’s still a 99% chance that you’ve seen the scene; it’s been done at least six times in The Simpsons alone, and even once in Doctor Who). Somehow I suspect this is deliberate. Anyway, this is an Evil Ernie fanfic writing song. Ooh yeah, love that shit!
Yaida Hitomi, “Buzzstyle”
Since ~H [h] mentioned last week that he enjoyed Shiina Ringo, here is the ‘next gen Shiina’, Yaida Hitomi. They have similar vocals, though in reality Yaida Hitomi (or ‘Yaihiko’, and I think I’m spelling that wrong ‘Yaiko’) has quite a different sound. ~matt first introduced me to “Buzzstyle” on the train to Sydney many, many years ago (not to mention he attended the same university as her while in Japan). Bemani addicts may be familiar with the English version of her “My Sweet Darlin’” (aka. “Darlin’ Darlin’”) and “Look Back Again”.
Dave Dobbin & the Herbs, “Slice of Heaven”
Hey beauty when the mood gets you down
Your bottom lip’s near dragging on the ground
That’s when I gotta play the clown for you
Black humour made you kick your blues
See, it’s not like I sit around listening to angry/emo industrial music all day. “Slice of Heaven” is probably the most ocker song. Ever. (Although technically it’s from New Zealand, they all know we love to steal their good stuff.) I’d reckon pretty much every Australian has heard at least the opening, even if they don’t strictly associate it with this song.
… and that’s all! See everyone next week.
Edit: Oops, it helps if I put in all the song download links first…

Fucking love the intro to ‘Buzzstyle’, ‘Come Back DJ’ is alright, even with the comic Carl Douglas sample… and the mental images of butch steel workers I get when the bassy vocals come on.
And as for ‘Slive of Heaven’? I feel like I should learn a moral of the story or something at the end. Don’t go through bathroom cabinets and drink anything from unlabelled bottles, kids.
I’ll return the favour and do a Music Monday as soon as said MP3s are uploaded on this painfully slow connection. It is ghey.
