Music Monday #3.3
Monday, 1:11 pm in Music
So, while I’m sitting about waiting for the keys to our new house… who wants some Music Monday? I bet you do!
Morris Minor and the Majors, “Stutter Rap (No Sleep Til Bedtime)” (video
Well no-one’s ever seen what I mean
From the age of n-n-n-n-n-n-thirteen
We’ve all been caught in a m-m-mouth trap
So join with us and do the st-st-st-st-st-st-st-stutter rap
N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-NO, NEED, FOR SHOUTING!
Morris Minor and the Majors were a one-hit wonder comedy band from the late 80s. Their one and really only hit, the “Stutter Rap”, is a parody of the Beastie Boys but more than that, it’s an awesome slice of 1980s nostalgia. These guys are English, so a lot of you out there in readerland might have missed them; woe is you. Ironically, after not seeing or hearing this song for literally years, the other week I saw it played in something like three different contexts, all in rapid succession. Just goes to show… something. I dunno.
New Order, “True Faith” (video)
I used to think that the day would never come
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
Aah, more wonderful 80s nostalgia! Apologies in advance for the shitty recording; I nicked this one off Spidey, so blame him. And, yeah yeah yeah I know this song is totally about heroin addiction, but… Actually, come to think of it, I seem to have an awful lot of songs that are about exactly that, and which remind me of completely different things. Hrm. Also, videoclip FTW.
Basement Jaxx feat. Siouxsie Sioux, “Cish Cash”
You missed that so you wanna kick back
All messed up and that’s a fact
If you wanna risk that do that
I guess its time for payback
I’m really failing to think of anything particularly interesting to say about these songs today, only that I want you to listen to them. So you will! For the record, Siouxsie Sioux is A-grade awesome.
Junior Senior, “Move Your Feet” (video)
There are technically lyrics to this song, but they’re a bit incidentally and meaningless so you can all do without for now. Anyway, I remember really disliking this song when it first came out many a year ago for no real reason (it probably wasn’t TRUMETAL enough for me), but I have since revised my opinion. Or something. Shit I’m just waiting for lunch to finish cooking.
J. Geils’ Band, “Centrefold” (video)
It’s okay, I understand, this ain’t no never-neverland
I hope that when this issue gone I’ll see you when your clothes are on
I first heard this song back in high school from one of the girls in my roleplaying group. She was lamenting at the time that she liked this track, in spite of the inherently sexist premise of the song. To be honest, I’m not entirely convinced it’s sexist… except maybe in a kind of creepy teenage nerd stalker kind of way. Hrm. Anyway, another classic track.
You know, all this talk about songs about heroin has gotten me thinking of a new idea for Music Monday. So, your homework for next week (should you choose to accept it; if not… FAIL!) is to give me some kind of theme. It could be anything, simple or esoteric; songs about a certain subject, songs with a certain word in the title, my favourite songs to sing in the car… whatever. And I will select one theme for next week’s song posting. Huzzah!
Or something… okay, lunch is ready now.

I actually really enjoy Move Your Feet. Like you said, it’s a case of “Lyrics? What lyrics?”, but the beat is certainly catchy.
In honour of the warmer weather I’m anticipating over the next few weeks (cause c’mon…this is Australia!), the theme I suggest is “Summer”.
