Music Monday #5
Monday, 10:39 pm in Music
Yup, it’s that time of the week again; the time when I desperatley race against the clock to bring you yet another belated Music Monday! [applause]
This week’s offering is as follows:
The Time Lords, “Doctorin' the TARDIS” (watch)
Hot damn words do not express my joy at finally hearing Aunty announce that they will be screening the ‘06 series of Doctor Who this Saturday at 7:30. Thank you TV gods! (And running the show only just after it’s finished in the UK; incredible!) As a tribute, please enjoy the greatest song of all time (har har). I mean, who couldn’t love Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll (Part II)” mixed in with our favourite time travelling alien’s theme song?
Klinger, “Hello Cruel World”
Television never made me mad
A distraction from the future that I’ll never have
Klinger were a mildly successful Australian indie band a couple of years’ back. Moreso than their slightly inane music, they were known for lampooning another – more successful – Australian indie artist, Ben Lee, over his mocking of yet another Australian indie band, Powerfinger, winning Triple J’s Hottest 100 one year. Powerchair are shithouse, I like Ben Lee despite his apparent ‘superbrat’ status, and I also like this song from Klinger. “Hello Cruel World” happily reminds me of everything from Corner to Aftermath and back again; it’s another one of those tracks I belt out to in my car when, erm, no-one is watching.
Tracy W. Bush, “Radio Free Zerg”
I’ve got no idea who Tracy W. Bush is, or in fact if she even wrote this song, but anyway; it has to get filed somewhere. “Radio Free Zerg” is the ‘hidden’ joke track in StarCraft; you can listen to it in game by typing in the cheat radiofreezerg (oddly enough). How you like my groove, Daggoth?
Deavid Soul, “Yappie Feet”
Another computer game track, this one from the soundtrack to Jet Set Radio Future (I think). I’ve never played the game, but I got the soundtrack off
gnosis in first year, mostly because fomr some reason I took a liking to one of the songs whose name I have totally forgotten. It wasn’t this one, and in fact I loathed the entire rest of the OST when I first heard it. Five years later and it’s grown on me to the extent that I am, in fact, going to share this song with you on Music Monday.
Happyland, “Theme From Happyland”
Walking in the park and the sun is shining.
Troubles of the world are way behind me.
Living in my dreams is where you’ll find me.
Walking down the streets of Happyland.
Once upon a time there were two names in australian indie rock; Spiderbait (aka. The Bait) and Regurgitator (aka. The ‘Gurge). At some point along the line, the lead singers of the two acts formed a side-project called Happyland, and released this track. As far as music goes it’s farily inane, but it was one of my favourite songs at the time and I still hold a soft-spot in my heart for it. My mum doesn’t like it. Happyland released one other track as far as I can remember – the videoclip to which involved two people in giant pink rabbit suits – and then vanished from the face of the earth. Happyland, for being so instrumental in the Aussie music scene in my teenage years, Music Monday salutes you!
And emember kids, drop by semi-transparent and pester Haiminh until he puts his up. And when you’re done with that, get some adventure into ya.
