Music Monday #8
Monday, 11:26 pm in Music
Well, it’s that time of the week again, the one you all know and love. That’s right, kids, it’s time for another Music Monday. This week, I decided to go with a World of Warcraft theme. Just because.
36. Jason Hayes, “Intro Movie: Seasons of War” (watch)
The absolutely beautiful music that goes along with the, well, absolutely beautiful intro movie to WoW. I remember the first time I saw this clip, blaring out of my speakers on the day before the official release. Dramatic music has a habit of making me cry, and yes – I admit it, I’m such a geek – watching this clip to this track after so much anticipation, I got a bit misty eyed. Those sure were the days; back before guilds and raids and endgame loot. A simpler time. Or something.
37. Jexz’ WoW Band, “LFGUBRS”
Don’t whine at me
What do you want me to do
I got nine mobs on me
My casting time is screwed
Don’t cry at me
Try keeping agro instead
You pull a small army
When my mana pool’s dead
WoW’s had joke songs written about it pretty much since the start. I guess it’s because Blizzard has been putting similar things into its games as easter eggs since WCII (see below). This is by no means the first WoW joke song, nor is it even the best (it’s kinda emo; the music I mean). Still, if you’ve ever played a healing class, or you’ve ever been in a shitty raid group…
38. Jay Chou, “半兽人 (Ban Shou Ren / The Orcs)” (watch)
I use the humble identity
Towards the far anciently existing god
Tears boiling
You know what South Korea really, really likes? Warcraft. I mean, they don’t like it as much as they like StarCraft, true, but… seriously, this song man. Jay Chou isn’t actually Korean, but that’s besides the point; can you imagine turning on Rage one morning to watch a top 40 clip about a videogame? The cutscenes in the videoclip are from WarCraft III, and most of them are actually about Arthas (who’s technically the head of the Undead Scourge, not the orcs), though I think Thrall and Grom get some airplay. I totally cried a little when Grom died; I go leave candles on his grave at the festival thing. Fuck you, level 30 demons; I laugh at your feeble attempts at agro! (Also, sorry for the really terrible lyrics translation…)
39. Bill Roper, Gregory Alper & Glenn Stafford, “I'm a Medieval Man”
Fun facts; if you stick the Warcraft II game CDs into a CD player, they play as music CDs and you can listen to the game soundtrack. Cool! I discovered this as a kid (don’t ask why I originally thought to put a game CD into my CD player, incidentally) and was extremely amused to discover this easter egg on the expansion CD. I believe it’s available via an in-game cheat as well, but here’s the mp3 version for the posterity of history. Yes, I ripped it myself. For those who’ve never played it, if you continually click on the units in the WC (and SC) games, they start looping ‘annoyed’ responses, which are always invariable humorous. The lovely folks at Blizz mixed us up the Human Footman, along with some singing orcs, to create this charming little tune.
40. Pure Pwnage, “World of Warcraft is a Feeling” (watch)
Stratholme, Scholo, and UBRS
He just dropped my valor helm
How could I roll a 6?
Grats to my guildmate, but I can’t believe this shit
Yeah, okay I had to. You know I had to. For those who live under rocks, this is probably the most famous song in the WoW-dom. It comes from the net TV series Pure Pwnage, which if you haven’t seen I suggest you check out, since it’s pretty fucking hilarious. I first saw this episode at ~Mat [h]’s house, lying on his bed watching his TV-box* and I was literally in tears laughing as soon as I realized that it wasn’t just some generic Céline Dion song. I love the way the singers really get into the miming of the lyrics, too; the guy with his gay little scarf and the chick with her wind machine. Much hilarity… Fucking Alliance scum.
Until next week; respect for the Warchief!

“Wuh-wuh, wuh-wuh, what do you want?” + obviously synthesised string section + slightly crap drum machine = fucking stunning. The Pure Pwnage one’s s’alright too innit.

“Medieval Man” is the best song in the history of gaming! You will bow to the Medieval Man!
