Varsity Blues

So, the evening of my second full day at UoW. Well…

What’s been happening? Well, we didn’t leave Canberra until late Sunday afternoon. The drive down wasn’t very exciting, bar when we drove through plumes of thick black smoke from a grass fire. Other than that… I had two cars off stuff but, amazingly, it all fit perfectly into my room. I’ll try and get some photos as soon as I can get hold of a camera. My room-mates are nice (I have at least two, possibly one more, but I hardly ever see most of them). In fact, everyone is nice down here, even if most of them are American. That’s right, Campus East is over a quarter American; apparently they have some exchange program. Every single day sown here seems to have some kind of party or pub crawl going on; which is kind of a shame since I don’t drink, but I’m doing my participation duty tomorrow in a hike up a mountain (no, not the Oozy one, the other one). I haven’t really been into the Uni yet – O-Week stuff really starts tomorrow, so I should hopefully meet lots of other Clueless First-Years then.- « Previous

Hiya Devi,

glad to see you’re okay at Uni. but you’ve got to go one one of them pub crawls; you’re not a proper *student* unless you’re broke, living in a grotty tip and go on pub crawls every night (even day if you’re tempted) getting comlpetely rat-arsed and chatting up a lamppost.

Hopefully SK will still be up and running whilst you’re at Uni? Or will your Law degree mean you’ll spend all your time looking up stuff on Jack the Ripper and charging extortionate rates for people to speak to you - friends and parents included. (hey, its good to get into the habit!)

Well, keep in touch, good luck and everything; hope you have fun at Wollabloggabongawongadongawogga Uni…

So you don’t have a room to yourself?
Or do you? Or by room-mates you mean hall-mates? Nathan Cripps is living on campus (how that works I don’t know, seeing as he’s a freakin’ Canberran. And his room is the size of the box a small pair of shoes comes in. Seriously. I could not stay there. I just couldn’t cope in such a small space. Anyway… um… O-week here hasn’t been very exciting. I still don’t have a fucking ID card (NOT HAPPY JAN!!!), the line is usually well over 3 hours long. I don’t understand how they can a system that takes so fucking long. Anyway, my timetable is still telling me I have all of Friday lecture-less, so that’s a plus. I joined up with the Anime Society (full year + tape library), the Japan Club, and Alana’s Magical Girl club. And I got sunburnt. And i got some Vodka Cruiser condoms.

And even if you don’t drink, you should still go out with everyone. Meet people. Have fun. Be social for a little bit, while you can before Uni starts.

I’m enrolled myself in a lot of Japanese, and the placement test was really hard. I think i’ll be starting at first year level anyway. Oh well. A few distictions maybe? I’m doing:
Written Jap. 1
Spoken Jap. 1
INtroduction to Language (the pre-req for Japanese Linguistics)
INtro to Asian History and Society (pre req to do anything in Asian Studies). So yeah, that’s me!
