Waynezarro and Meme Questions
Saturday, 1:03 am in Art
You can blame this one on
jen_in_japan’s “This Story Am Not Slashy”. Sure, it’s non-explicit but it put the idea of naked Batzarro in my head and then somewhere along that line it occurred to me that I don’t think the guy’s got eyes. He’s got this chalk-white skin and big yellow fangs and then my brain extrapolates this out into this kind of… not bat-monster, exactly, but… sort of the… spirit of a bat-monster? Because he doesn’t look anything like a bat. But he looks like what I think people would think a bat-monster would look like.
This is actually my second stab at this picture; the first one (done on the plane back from WA) turned out too rough. Drawing a character sans eyes is more difficult than it seems; I was originally going for a totally blank, dome-shape (like his cowl) but it ended up just looking like… I dunno. Like I hadn’t drawn eyes. But in a bad way. I’m not sure if I prefer this ‘brow’ look or not. But the image of a de-costumed Batzarro (Waynezarro?) buttoning up his French Cuffs was just too perfect an image to resist.
And just to finish this post off, my answer to Jen’s 5 Questions from the meme the other day.
- How did you get into Apollo/Midnighter?
Reading a thread of comments between
terrayndian and
vejiicakes. I was all like, “… there’s a comic out there with canon fanservice? Ho snap I gotta get me this some o’ this!” So over the next month or so I went out and bought every Authority TPB I could find. And that’s about it, really. - What’s your basic philosophy on writing?
Write what you like, not what you think other people think you should be writing. I like what I call ‘trashy airport novels’ – albeit well-written ones – and so that’s what I strive to produce. Almost ironically, I don’t like ‘literature’ and so I try and avoid it like the plague. It’s not that I dislike being challenged by what I’m reading, I just don’t like the fact being forced down my throat as some kind of ‘message’. Movies and comics I like to deconstruct. Books I just prefer to be entertained by. - What’s the coolest place you’ve ever travelled?
Oh gosh, this one’s gotta be Venice. Sure, it’s a bit of an unoriginal answer but the place is just seriously fucking amazing. Like woah! Fairytale fantasy city and a half. - What’s a pet peeve of yours in fanfic?
Going on from number 2 above, it’s people who try and be over-literate. I mean, seriously, it’s fandom for godssakes and, okay, maybe if you’re writing, like, Atlas Shrugged fanfic you can get away with it… but keep it away from my Blark and my Snarry or whatever. I think for me it’s a jarring, genre-breaking thing. And it’s a shame, in a way, because there’ve been a couple of authors I’ve read through in the past who’ve been quite good writers otherwise, but whose work tends to fall into this category and subsequently becomes more and more unreadable for me. It gets worse because usually when people fall into this trap they start writing in more and more and more ridiculous melodrama. When I just want to smack characters for being completely retarded I’m no longer enjoying my fic and it kinda defeats the purpose of fandom for me in the first place. I like my waff and my H/C and my happy endings. Leave the Rocks Fall Everybody Learns A Valuable Lesson About Philosophy to Neon Genesis Evangellion. - What’s the worst movie you ever paid money to see in the theater?
Geeze, there are lots of these; most of them the fault of
matt! 10 Things I Hate About You, Save the Last Dance, Go, Stepmom, any film with ‘Bourne’ in the title… but I think the winner has got to be a toss-up between my literary arch-nemesis, Sin City and The Thin Red Line. The former because it was just so. Fucking. Disappointing (it was my first brush with Frank Miller; I went in positive and came out having lost my faith in humanity) and the latter because it was criminally boring and self-important. “War… It never ends.” No shit, Sherlock! Less dull moralizing and more bang bang shooty explosion!

And don’t forget the godawfulness of Ghost Rider! Or does it count if you go in already expecting it to be trash?
-
I think it doesn’t count because it was a B film, sure, but it wasn’t trying to be anything else so it was still enjoyable (and had that scene with the jellybeans in the glass; that’s still hilarious). The films I’m talking about here had nothing enjoyable about them at all; soul-sucking pits of awfulness. Actually, with the exception of Sin City they’re all also films other people have dragged me to, rather than ones I’ve chosen for myself…

Neat drawing! Especially love the hair, reminds me of Phoenix Wright (who is super awesome).
For some reason I can’t log in.

Haha, yeah I was thinking that when I drew it.

Hrm, how come no login? I know the login link gets eaten in IE for some reason I’m too lazy to investigate. You should be able to use this page.

Yay I’m logged in now!
I’m using firefox. The first time I tried the login link was on this page, but it led me to some sort of error that was apparently logged it said. The login link on the front page just redirected by to the front page.
But it’s all good now, I’m in!

Oh. Durr. That’s me trying to use a template variable that didn’t exist; nice work, Dee.

Should be fixed now.
