Webring Joygasm

Wow… sk.ring really is pretty smooth to use; say hello to RADIO.BLOGS, a webring for, well, RADIO.BLOGs.

I had a small problem with running two copies of sk.ring on the one server (the $_SESSIONs were clashing), but I fixed it via a very simple additon of a function that created unique session names for multiple rings. Easy. I’ve also seperated out the layout functions from the members.inc.php file, so that one is a little easier to update when I make changes to ie (ie. you don’t lose all your custom formatting).

It’s also possible to share functions.inc.php and members.inc.php files between multiple rings, but it doesn’t do it quite as smoothly as I’d have liked; I might write a seperate distro for ring collectives (ie. http://rings.void-star.net/ring1, etc.) that shares go.php and admin.php filesa s well, but I’ll get the single ring stuff working first and think about making changes later on.

Oh, people might notice the layout for RADIO.BLOGS uses some CSS tricks I ganked off ~starfyre [h]. Namely the Evil Floating DIV. ~starfyre [h]’s layouts always tend to look kinda off for me; I always thought this was because I used Mozilla, but apparently not. Such is the danger of the floating DIV. But it’s okay, since R.B is the first layout I have – quite accidentally – made for my own screen’s resolution (1280x1024), and it gets the evil Double Scrollbars of Doom on anything more sensible. Oops. Should really watch that in the future.

I like procrastination.

    1280x 1024 is fine for me smile.png
Anyone with a smaller resolution should be punished with excessively long scroll bars.
